GO AHEAD, TAP THAT CLASS

Breckenridge is at the base of the Rocky Mountains’ Tenmile Range. It is most commonly known as a ski resort town. However, there are so many activities to do there year-round!

Breckenridge, Colorado

We were in Breckenridge for a work conference, so our time there was limited and mostly taken up by boring sessions. That said, though, we snuck in some fun when possible.

Accommodations: This was a work trip, and the conference was held at Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center. This is the second time we have stayed here, and the resort is fine during summer. During the winter months, it would be AWESOME since it is so close to the ski lifts.

It is important to note: THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING so it can be hot in your condo. I thought most mountain places were like this, but I learned on this trip that the Residence Inn has air conditioning and a fantastic breakfast! Guess where we are staying next time?

One of Beaver Run’s best parts is that the four buildings are connected via a SkyWalk (or if you are from Minnesota, we call them a Skyway)…meaning you can go from building to building without going outside. This would be a huge selling point in the cold winter months.

There are little hot tubs and a few spots with outdoor gas fire pits near the pool. Again, both are great for the winter months.

Also, a shuttle will take you down/up the hill because, trust me, your legs will be burning after walking the hill a couple of times a day! Take the shuttle!

THINGS TO DO

Shopping

There are so many cute little shops lining the main street of Breckenridge. Some are unique to Breckenridge, and some are more mainstream stores like Patagonia and The North Face.

I could spend hours shopping in little local boutiques in any city – plus, supporting local business owners is essential to me. Then again, who doesn’t need something every time they walk into a Lululemon?

Breckenridge Distillery - Tasting Room

137 S Main St.

Are you looking for an entertaining tasting room in Breckenridge? We highly suggest checking out Breckenridge Distillery. The Breckenridge Distillery is the “World’s Highest Distillery” at 9,600 feet. Founded in 2008, the Breckenridge Distillery is most widely known for its blended bourbon whiskey, a high-rye mash American-style whiskey. It is delicious and worth a taste. Plus, we think a locally-made adult beverage bottle makes a great gift!

Blue River Plaza

137 S Main St

Blue River Plaza has ample seating, looking out onto several peaks. There is sculpture, a 19th-century wagon, a small toddler sandbox, and a murmuring stretch of the Blue River; the Breckenridge Visitor Center and bike path are just off the plaza. It’s a fine place to sip coffee in the sun.

Mountain Angler (Fly Fishing)

311 S Main St

We had a BLAST fly fishing with Mountain Angler. Why fly fishing? Why not! Breckenridge is within an hour’s drive of five major rivers: Blue River, Eagle River, Colorado River, Arkansas River, and South Platte River. Our guide was extremely personable and ensured we knew what we were doing before hitting the river. Then, when in the river, he kept us moving if the fish weren’t biting.

If you don’t like fly fishing, we encourage you to try it. It is relaxing and fun at the same time. Anyone can do it.

PLACES TO EAT

Radicato (Mountain Italian)

137 South Main Street

Rooted in Italian cuisine, Radicato offers a family-style dining experience in a beautiful setting on the Riverwalk in Breckenridge, Colorado. The outdoor seating here is the best as it is located on the second floor and overlooks the river.

Old-world traditions inspire Radicato and showcase techniques like handmade pasta. Sharing food, drink, and conversation with friends and family is at the heart of the dining experience at Radicato.

Ollie's Pub

180 W. Jefferson Ave

Ollie’s Pub and Grub, a local favorite, is now open at their new location on the water. Formerly home to The Dredge, the new restaurant features late-night options in this mining relic dredge boat in the middle of historic downtown.

Ollie’s is known as the highest-floating restaurant in the world. Being from Minnesota, we love things on or near the water, so Ollie’s was a must-visit.
