GO AHEAD, TAP THAT CLASS

When a long weekend is approaching, it means it is time for a quick vacation! As you know, at BEING BOUJEE, travel is one of our biggest loves. We love Rudy. We love luxury shopping. But there is a special love we have for traveling!

For Memorial Day 20222, we decided to travel to Austin, Texas. It wasn’t our first trip to Austin, Texas, so we had already done a lot of the touristy stuff, so it provided us with the opportunity to lounge at the rooftop pool for days <literally>!

Keep Austin Weird!

“Keep Austin Weird!” was coined in 2000 by the Austin Independent Business Alliance to promote small businesses in Austin. It is a phrase that fits Austin really well and is often seen around town, on t-shirts, and even at the airport!

Accommodations: Again, we rented a condo via VRBO, which was truly unique! We knew we wanted to stay in the Rainy Street area, and of course, we wanted a modern/new place with a fantastic pool . . . and boy, did we find it! We rented a one-bedroom condo at Natiivo Austin Lake View, where the view, location, and rooftop pool were perfect!

Don’t tell Rudy, but there is also a beautiful dog park on one of the upper floors! I love Rudy, but sometimes I need a break from him, so this was an adult-only trip. Sorry Ruds!

The rooftop pool is a WOW and the spot for people to socialize. Granted, it was a holiday weekend when we were there, but by 4:00 p.m. each afternoon, the pool was full of people!

There are three small cabana-like structures at one of the pools, which are great if you want a tiny shade during the day. If you want one of these shade spots, make it up there no later than 10 a.m.

The view from the rooftop pool is fantastic. There are views of the river, the city, and everything else you can imagine. It is a great spot to watch the sunset. The rooftop area was busy until the late hours. Bring a cocktail, a good book, and some tunes, and you are ready to relax.

Transportation: We didn’t rent a car for this trip and utilized Lyft for our transportation needs across the city. Our Chase Sapphire Reserved credit card gives us 10x the points for using Lyft. Don’t have the Chase Sapphire Reserved credit card? YOU ARE TRULY MISSING OUT! It is our favorite credit card to support our love for travel.

THINGS TO DO

We will need your input so we can fill this area. This trip was indeed a relaxing trip for us. Therefore, we spent every day at the pool. Every. Single. Day. Have you visited Austin, Texas, previously? Please give us your recommendations to build out this section. Send your recommendations to LeAnn@beingboujee.com

Natiivo Rooftop Pool

The rooftop pool at our VRBO is stunning, and we spent three full days relaxing at it while reading. The pool includes two sun shelfs of 4″ water, which are fantastic for kids or adults to play in. The middle of the pool is four feet deep, so it is truly perfect for adults to lounge in. The wall along one side of the pool includes a sitting ledge, which encourages lounging in the pool.

TIP: Just reach over and open the door - the key card access never worked while we were there.

PLACES TO EAT

Rainey Street is where to go – day or night – for hip food and drinks. On Rainey Street, little bungalow homes have become cute bars and restaurants. At night, the streets are filled with people, and live music can be heard streaming from every place you walk by.

The O.G. on King's Hawaiian bread with Jack and Cheddar cheese. It was the best grilled cheese!

The Night and Day Food Park is filled with many great food options. When I saw a grilled cheese food truck called Burro Cheese Kitchen, it was a must to try as I consider myself a grilled cheese connoisseur, and it did not disappoint!

Little Lucy’s Mini Donuts was another place that was calling our name. How can someone turn down mini-donuts? It’s impossible!

What makes Little Lucy’s a must-try is their unique sugar toppings such as bacon, maple & rum, peanut butter & banana, pumpkin pie spices, and many others. Of course, we just tried the cinnamon and sugar, and it was delicious.

Suerte is located in the heart of east Austin on East 6th Street. The Suerte chef combines Mexican cooking techniques with Texas ingredients from local farmers, and it is delicious!

Suerte is a popular choice. So, we highly recommend that you make reservations for dinner.

Here at BEING BOUJEE, we want to ensure you are prepared for your trip, so we have created the ultimate Texas packing list for you. Many items aren’t BOUJEE, but you can BOUJEE them up with your spin on them. One of these days, we will invest in cowboy boots, but they take up so much space when packing! Who has that kind of space available in their suitcase?!?
