How much did you spend on a pair of sneakers that look like they have been worn for years by someone else? It is a question that reminds me of my mom always giving me a hard time buying jeans with holes and distressed. Yet, I wanted to see if the Golden Goose sneakers lived up to their hype, so I bought a pair.
I rarely look at the promotions tab of my email, yet one morning, I checked and saw a new release of a Golden Goose sneaker style that immediately spoke to me – a graffiti style. I love items that are unique and only worn by some. With that said, I also like to go with the crowd rather than stick out, so it takes a little effort for me to find the balance. I rushed to the Golden Goose website, and within minutes, I had ordered the sneakers – literally without putting much thought into it. I love purchases like that!
What makes Golden Goose sneakers unique? The founders of Golden Goose, Alessandro Gallo and Francesca Rinaldo, describe the Superstar sneakers as an “emotional product that is authentic and never artificial.” When you first purchase them, they look like they have lived a life full of adventure.
What does that mean? The sneakers look dirty and used. Yep. They come that way. Golden Goose uses a unique technique to scuff, scrape, and distress the leather to give each pair a unique look. No two pairs are the same, as they are handmade and hand-distressed.
What is the sizing for Golden Goose sneakers? Golden Goose sneakers are made in Italian sizing, which can be confusing. Here is an example of the sizing:
IT 36 = US 6
IT 38 = US 8
IT 40 = US 10
They are only sold in whole sizes and are true to size. If your regular shoe size is 1/2, I recommend sizing down. For example, if you are a US 8 1/2, I suggest ordering the IT 38.
Are the shoes comfortable? I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect with the sneakers, but I have read other reviews from people who highly recommended them. While my wallet may not like it, I am a fan of them now. They are incredibly comfortable right out of the box; however, the more you wear them, the more they conform to your feet and become even more comfortable!
Are they worth the money? Golden Goose shoes are usually $500+ per pair. The pair I bought was $560, and I think they were worth it. They are comfortable, unique, and a conversation starter. I have the best luck ordering my Golden Goose shoes from Nordstrom. Hmmmm…I need to invest in my second pair. Happy shopping!
Writing the post above made me realize I needed another pair of Golden Goose sneakers. This time, I wanted a pair that was a little more “boring” looking (but not too boring) than the graffiti pair I previously purchased…and when you own more than one of something, you have a collection.
This time, I ordered the Super-Star Low Top sneaker from Nordstrom. What I liked about these shoes is that they were slightly different from the traditional Golden Goose look yet still had components of the conventional look… Does that make any sense?
The Super-Star Low top sneakers have a heavyweight mesh and a perforated toe box, which I love. I love the uniqueness of the mesh material! The sneakers have the hand-distressed and scuffed signature Golden Goose look – yes, the shoes look like they have been worn for years! The inside of the shoes is lined with a soft terry material, which feels fantastic with bare feet. I often go without no-show socks when I wear these, as I have yet to find a pair of no-show socks I love.
The sneakers were $495; they are one of my favorite pairs of shoes!
