Seattle is the largest city in the state of Washington and the largest city in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
Seattle is located on an isthmus – a narrow piece of land connecting two larger areas across a large body of water by which they would otherwise be separated – between Puget Sound and Lake Washington.
Seattle is about 100 miles south of the Canadian border, and driving to Canada is highly recommended, although we needed more time. So, why don’t you take a road trip from Seattle to Canada and tell us about it? We would love to share your experience on BEING BOUJEE!
Accommodations: Due to this being a girl’s trip, it sometimes takes a little negotiating to decide which place we will stay. As I have recommended previously, I suggest you identify as a group what your priorities are for accommodations. We chose the view as the most critical factor for selecting a VRBO for this trip, and having a hot tub was a bonus.
As we tend to do, we rented a VRBO. Unfortunately, we didn’t love the property, so I won’t provide you with the listing number as I don’t want to put a rental on blast, but if you want to know where we stayed, email us. The Space Needle is one of the most recognized landmarks in the world and is a must-see and do while visiting Seattle. The Space Needle opened in 1962 and stands 605 feet tall. Yep, it’s pretty tall, but the views from the top of it are excellent!
Are you afraid of heights? Yep, we had one of those people in our group, too, but she did terrific standing close to the wall and not overlooking the side. Then we got her an adult beverage, and before you knew it, she was crawling on the ground to take a quick picture with us on the glass floor.
TIP: Purchasing tickets outside of the Space Needle can take a little time, depending on how busy that day is. There are kiosks around the entire building, so if the first few you see are busy, keep walking around the building. We are guessing you will find one open and waiting for you.
We suggest starting at the saucer-shaped “top house, which includes 360-degree indoor and outdoor views of downtown, Mount Rainer, Puget Sound, the Cascades, and Olympic mountain ranges.
In the summer of 2018, the Space Needle opened a new remodeled experience for visitors, which included a floor-to-ceiling multi-level glass viewing experience, as well as an outdoor observation deck that provides open-air glass walls and unique glass benches positioned in a way that causes you to lean backward when you are sitting on it.
You will find a grand wood, steel, and glass staircase from the observation deck that will take you to The Loupe. What is The Loupe? It is the world’s first – and only – rotating glass floor. Yep, you read that right! A GLASS FLOOR! The glass floor allows you to look directly below you to view the actual Space Needle structure. This part of the experience is not for the faint of heart. It is a glass floor, and it rotates. We encourage you to have an adult beverage and enjoy your time exploring this area.
From The Loupe, you will be able to catch the elevator back down to the ground. Depending on your love/hate for heights, you might find yourself bending over and kissing the ground once you make it back down.
Let me be the first to admit that I am not a fan of coffee. *GASP* I know! How can it be true? Well, it’s true. When at a coffee establishment, I enjoy hot chocolate like an 8-year-old kid or unsweetened iced tea. Living on the edge – that is what I call it. Ha ha!
The first Starbucks Reserve Roastery opened in Seattle in December 2014. The Reserve Roastery includes various opportunities to engage in the space:

Of course, the minute you open the door to the building, the sweet aroma of coffee comes spilling out. Yes, even I, who doesn’t like to drink coffee, love the smell of coffee.
One person in our group tried a coffee flight, another a martini espresso, and me with my hot chocolate. Everything we tried was delicious, and we highly recommend checking this place out when you are in Seattle.
Pikes Place Market is one of the oldest continuously operated farmers market in the United States. On average, 10 million people visit Pikes Place Market annually, which makes it the 33rd most visited tourist attraction IN THE WORLD!
Pikes Place Market is much larger than the main floor, often seen in pictures. Multiple levels are under the main floor, home to various small businesses and restaurants.
One of the most popular destinations at Pikes Place Market is Pikes Place Fish Market, where employees throw fish at one another instead of passing them by hand. When a customer orders a fish, an employee at the Fish Market’s ice-covered fish table picks it up and throws it over the countertop, where another employee catches it and prepares it to be sold.
This is a must-watch in person because it is such a unique experience! Are you interested in bringing fish home with you? They will ship it to you!
The Gum Wall is the other place to visit at Pikes Place Market. The Gum Wall is located on the lower level, unique and gross simultaneously. The Gum Wall started in the 1990s when local patrons and performers at Unexpected Productions stuck their used gum on the wall. That was just the start, and it has continued growing since then. Ewwwwww. Bring your ABC gum and add it to the wall!
Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington state, and the grounds are gorgeous. We were thankful to visit on a beautiful fall weekend to spend time outside on the grounds watching grape stomping.
White wines are made on site here in Woodville, Washington, while red wines are made on their Canoe Ridge Estate in eastern Washington state.
We arrived early enough that spots were still available for a wine-tasting experience. We had the opportunity to try four different wines. Most we loved – one we didn’t, but don’t worry, we still drank it.
We each bought a bottle or two to bring home. I just enjoyed one of the bottles I had brought home: a tasty champagne that went great with orange juice as a morning mimosa. Packaging is available to travel home more easily with the bottles you will purchase.
Palisade is a seafood restaurant with beautiful views of Puget Sound. We went there for dinner, so it was a little more BOUJEE than we thought it would be for lunch. While dinner was great, it was challenging to see the view outside, so we suggest you check it out for lunch instead of dinner.
Dinner was fantastic, and the attire ranged from casual to dressy. We saw formal dress attire from what appeared to be a Homecoming date when we were there.
LeAnn is a mentor and the ultimate BOUJEE glamour gal. When she left daily drudgery behind in favor of following her own personal path to joy, she made a promise to herself that she would help others do the same. All she’s ever wanted is to do is stay healthy, live her best life and give back to others by introducing them to their inner BOUJEE.
